It’s Over… For Now…
Last night Barack Obama clinched the Democratic Presidential nomination in the same style that he has accomplished so many other things in the past year or so – he did with grace and respect.
His speech last night in Missouri was another example of how Barack will lead this Country – he spent around 15 minutes praising Hillary Clinton for her hard fight and praising her for her accomplishments as a public servant and a dedicated fighter for the causes, i.e., Healthcare, he went so far as to say that when the fight on Health Care issues in the United States is won it will be because of her.
In contrast Hillary’s speech lasted about 4 minutes thanking Obama for his participation in a race that she somehow thinks she should have won. Tsk. Tsk.
But, enough about her!!! HE WON!!! Barack Obama is going to be OUR Democratic Nominee for President of the United States and I’d like ALL OF US LATINOS and MINORITIES alike to reflect on what this accomplishment truly means for us all. It is for me the start of a new era of politics in which our voices will be heard; an era in which things will change.
Last night also marked the end of John McCain as we know him I think. His speech last night was filled with mockery and ridicule of the Obama “Change We Can Believe In” slogan to a crowd of about 200 people. He again touted the horn of having been a War Hero and Vietnam Veteran, which bothers me a little bit. But it’s not a topic I am going to delve into here (or right now).
In Contrast… Barack spoke to a crowd of 20,000+ people with 15,000+ waiting outside that could not “get in.” Imagine that? 35,000 people wanted to hear our future speak.
That said. I call on ALL OF US to UNITE NOW and REGISTER to VOTE this coming November, because although a previous article I wrote on Latinos voting for a Black candidate may be, those of us that think this through in the coming weeks and months will realize that Barack Obama is the RIGHT CHOICE to make in November and if we allow otherwise than I simply don’t understand what WE stand for. I also make this calling to all those currently bitter “Denver” screaming Hillary supporters who, during exit polling, indicated that they would rather vote for McCain than for Obama since Hillary’s not the nominee – are you all that DUMB? I mean? HELP McCain? Come on, is that what Hillary Clinton would want?
So, LET’S ROCK THE VOTE!!! And let’s register as many people that aren’t registered as possible and get the word out!!!
