Clinton Fights On… Why?
“Desperately trying to convince Democrats that she still has a chance of returning to the White House, Sen. Hillary Clinton…” Is how the story begins on CNN.COM, which is only interesting to me, beside the obvious, because when exactly was Hillary Clinton “in” the White House? I mean, like I’ve said before, if living at the White House and being First Lady somehow made her “President” than great I missed that part in high school history. CNN… She’s NEVER “been in the White House” so she’d be really arriving for the first time? Does ANYONE disagree?
Beyond this, and getting back to the obvious. It’s clear now, even with her win in Indiana that Hillary Clinton simply can’t win the nomination, so why is she still in the race? Just today one of her most prominent supporters, Sen. George McGovern is switching his support to Obama and even calls on Hillary to step out of the running. While 3 other Supers also endorse Obama - it seems like they are dropping like flies out of Hillary’s camp, perhaps as the obvious becomes apparent? Here’s the lowdown from NBC’s Domenico Montanaro over on FirstRead:
Obama won a superdelegate switch, the campaign confirms. AP first reported that Virginia’s Jennifer McClellan had switched her support from Clinton to Obama.
The day in delegates: Obama 4, Clinton 1
This is the fourth superdelegate endorsement Obama has won today. Clinton has netted one: She lost McClellan, but won the endorsements of Rep. Heath Shuler (NC-11), who said he’d back who won his district. NBC’s Mike Viqueira reports Rep. Brad Ellsworth (IN-8) is also backing Clinton, since she won his district last night as well.
See, the math was what was going to kill her all this time, and it’s doing, perhaps even done just that. Consider that Obama is currently 177 delegates away from the magic number of 2,025 to win the nomination and there are 262 Superdelegates left, and some other contests, etc.,.
One thing that is bothering me about all of this, thought Hillary certainly has the right to continue “fighting” is that she KNOWS she has, currently at least, unless some dramatic flip happens with Superdelegates, a snow ball’s chance in hell of winning the nomination, so why is it that her she simply doesn’t step away and try again in 4 years?
Perhaps Hillary should get the message? http://hillaryis404.org/ - or perhaps she simply doesn’t care about the future of the Democratic Party?
