Can Wright Shut Up Already?
As millions of us watched Gaby trying to get rid of Carlos’ dog in this past Sunday’s episode of Desperate Housewives, shamelessly and as usual for her own personal gain and because her own selfishness, did ANYONE, like me, make a leap of faith (no pun intended) and connect her behavior to that of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his newfound love to hate Obama as much as possible publicly and along the way pickup his own gravy train of fame that might last well into November of this year? I am sure it won’t be the last we hear of the Rev. but why can’t it be? Why won’t be? Of course we all know the answer to why he will survive for the next 5 months,anyone with some sense and who watched the first 53 minutes of The Debate would know why – the MEDIA won’t kill him ANYTIME SOON.
I am very hopeful, however, that people are much smarter than The Media wants us to be and that we are doing exactly what Wright deserves? Tuning him out? Much like Obama is doing right now and has been doing so since the weekend, which is also going to cause more fire to be spewed by the Rev. His political aspirations aside – he has none, we wish – he’s spent the past few days taking pop shots at Obama for his shunning of the Reverend’s comments, and with every licking seemingly becoming more and more animated as a good standup comic would seem to be when having a good run at Caroline’s or some place.
I heard one comment he made on Sunday that made me laugh a little, in as much as it spoke some vexxed Wright truth, but it also made me realize how much of an idiot this man is. He joked about how if a black man won the Presidency he’d be the first man to ever have sex “legally” (he bombasted on stage) in the White House with a Black woman. I found the joke a bit low, even for a black Reverend from Chicago, who’se just a bit bitter for being shut out and who’se Major League capitalizing on his 15 minutes of pure white light.
Bob Herbert says that:
Smiling, cracking corny jokes, mugging it up for the big-time news media — this reverend is never going away. He’s found himself a national platform, and he’s loving it.

This whole story is about Senator Obama’s run for the White House and absolutely nothing else. Barack Obama went to Rev. Wright’s church as a young man and was blessed with the Christian bona fides that would be absolutely essential for a high-profile political career.Faster than anyone could have imagined, the young Mr. Obama became Senator Obama and then the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. Then came the videotaped sermons and the roof caved in on Rev. Wright’s reputation. Senator Obama had no choice but to distance himself, and he did it as gently as he felt he could.
My guess is that Mr. Wright felt he’d been thrown under a bus by an ungrateful congregant who had benefited mightily from his association with the church and who should have rallied to his former pastor’s defense. What we’re witnessing now is Rev. Wright’s “I’ll show you!” tour.
Obama, meanwhile, is putting up a strong front against Rev. Wright condeming his comments for a number of weeks.
So, why do we still listen to this fool? In the name of comedy? Or in the name of the Church he represents? I’d hope for the former, since the latter is certainly an innocent bystander. My wish is that the Reverend take a crack at the Last Comic Standing this Summer where he might just win.
And as a final thought, how many of you would like to see a wider shot of the audience at some of these Rev. Wright Comedy Relief shows? I’d love to see how many other prominent people go to these great exercises of First Amendment speech for which now, somehow, Obama is chastised for, but for which, likewise, he’s also I think defending himself properly against – unless of course we You Tube a video someday of Obama right next to Wright praising that we, “God Damn America!”
