Hillary’s Necessary Win…
Okay, so yesterday was probably no surprise to many of us, and we’re all sitting back right now saying, no duh she won? Right? Well, what did it do for her, really?
CNN reports on comments by Hillary that she, “won [the] double-digit victory that everybody on TV said I had to win, and the voters of Pennsylvania clearly made their views known — that they think I would be the best president and the better candidate to go against Sen. McCain….”
Can anyone remind Hillary that 10% is just as close to 9% as is 11% and that the double digits most analysts may have REALLY been talking about is probably closer to 20% than 10%. She won by 10%, but that doesn’t change anything mathematically, and no matter how this plays out neither candidate will have enough delegates going into August to “clinch” the nomination. Hillary continues winning, also, by the hand of the same voters that will need to rally behind EITHER Candidate come November when the General elections take place – White Women and White Men. If this group of Democrats becomes bitter by a Clinton loss and steps away from Obama in November then we can certainly welcome another 4 years of Bush Politics about as quickly as you can read this post.
“Hillary Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary by ten points [actually, 8.6* or whatever**], continuing her string of large state victories and thereby keeping her dim hopes for the presidency alive,” writes James Joyner over at Outside the Beltway and I couldn’t agree more with his compilation – Hillary’s winning, but she’s not winning big enough.
Another interesting read is this Editorial from The New York Times who endorsed Hillary early on – The Low Road to Victory which points out that this race is only going to get decided by something created by Democrats but seldom used – the Superdelegate.
Well, let’s see how things turn out in a couple of weeks.
