McCain’s Hot Head? A Danger to the United States?

It’s 3:00am and you need to decide whether to put troops in harm’s way in an uprising, well, let’s just say, somewhere in the Middle East. You call up your Commander’s and ask them what you should do, and they politely disagree with troop action at the moment because of some newly discovered intelligence that they wish to analyze for a few hours. Without thinking about it and with the zeal of a 10 year old you insist that troops should be mobilized, as if they were toy soldiers on a make believe battlefield, and your Commander’s question you. Their mistake pushes you over the edge and you blurt out like a 5th grader chanting, “It’s mine. All mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. And I want troops to move now.”

This is the likely scenario that would occur in the middle of a decision that Republican Presumptive Nominee John McCain would be involved in according to the Washington Post in an article written this weekend in reference to John McCain’s very shortfused temperament.

The article describes how McCain struggled as a young boy, and how he struggled through multiple changes of schools, venue, etc., etc., once saying, as the Washington Post reports, “[t]hat temper has followed him throughout his life… He recalls in his writings how, as a toddler, he sometimes held his breath and fainted during moments of fury. As the son of a naval officer who was on his way to becoming a four-star admiral, McCain found himself frequently uprooted and enrolled in new schools, where, as an underappreciated outsider, he developed “a little bit of a chip on my shoulder.”

So, okay… He’s got a temper, and I am sure many of you out there reading this do as well, but, and I think the Post does a good job of illustrating this, should a potential President of the United States have as hot a temper as it appears McCain has? With some of his own party calling him overzealous and too hot handed?

Well? I’m sure I’d like to have a President sitting in the White House that has some good old fashion guts, but do I want someone who’se going to throw a fit if his/her honor is questioned? If his/her decision is simply not accepted by those around him? If his/her advisors don’t agree with their position?

I sure hope McCain’s temper doesn’t start World War IV… Ahem, I mean III. Sorry, I thought we were already in World War III.
