The Lull… Where’s the Campaign?
So this seemed to have been a slow week for both sides of the same track – Hillary and Obama that is. All seems quiet on the home front right now. What is going on? Where are the candidates? What’s the stump man?
Well, it seems like Obama’s not loosing as much ground as many people thought he’d be loosing at this stage in the game with the Wright saga now behind – unless of course more footage of Wright babbling about righteousness and how we should burn America to its core surfaces in the coming weeks. Also with more and more politicians across the United States asking both sides to cool the rhetoric down it seems to me like Hillary and Obama might actually start being nicer to each other in the coming weeks.
Of course the niceness will end as we approach the next primaries.
Countdown to Pennsylvania: 25 days
Countdown to North Carolina, Indiana: 39 days
Countdown to Election Day 2008: 221 days
Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009: 298 days
But we can only hope that they stay nice to each other long enough to even perceive it much like we can hope that they work out their differences and settle the democratic nomation like “men”
How many of you out there wouldn’t want to see an Obama/Hillary or Hillary/Obama ticket? CBSNEWS reports that, “A recent Pew poll showed that 66 percent of Clinton supporters want her to pick Obama for the ticket should she end up with the nomination while a smaller number, 59 percent, of Obama supporters said the same of Clinton.” There’s also the very real possibility that we may even have a VeepNominee in our own backyard – if you’re from New York City you know who I am talking about.
Yes. Michael Bloomberg. Obama and Michael have been seen on at least 2 occassions being real “close” to each other and the idea of Bloomberg on the ticket is very real. Bloomberg’s recent introduction of Obama at a speech on the economy made speculations bolster on this idea. It would be a nice ticket? I think so. Bloomberg’s done a pretty good job in New York – at least from a “business perspective” even if he hasn’t done the best job of calming some of the more “people” issues in New York (yes, I’m talking about Race/Crime/Etc).
According to CBSNEWS, “Bloomberg says his support is up for grabs but he has flirted openly with Obama now on two very public occasions. With the perception that Obama has problems within the Jewish community, would it not be an interesting pairing?”
So, with Obama needing the Jewish community on his side in order to beat Hillary – at least at one level within a certain number of states, I’m betting Obama’s shouting to Bloomberg at every possible turn. Of course, I’m speculating myself.
So, let’s see what the weekend brings about and as we near Pennsylvania let’s keep our ears open for the next scandal, since this is just the beginning of the beginning. And while we’re waiting let’s pray that this ends soon and we can start stumping much like McCain’s already doing.
And BREAKING NEWS… One more Senator is now endorsing Barack Obama – Senator Bob Casey from Pensylvannia. So, how will that help in 25 days?
